Background Landscape Management Co. was founded as a general partnership in
Columbia, TN by Derek Wilson and Danny Willems in 1998. The company’s origins,
however, can be traced back to the late 80’s and early 90’s to the days when
one of the founding owners, Derek Wilson, worked away his high school and
college summers mowing lawns and performing light landscape maintenance for a
couple dozen loyal customers in and around Columbia, TN. In 1996, Derek and
Danny became partners and operated a landscaping business known as D & D
Enterprises. Soon after changing the name to Landscape Management Co. in 1998,
Bill Wilson, Derek’s father, bought out Danny’s share of the business to
create a father and son team. Danny was not completely through with the business
at that point though, as he would later come back as a partner until his final
departure in From some humble beginnings, Landscape Management Co. has evolved into the one of the most complete lawn, landscape, irrigation, and low voltage lighting service providers in the Columbia, TN area. The company has grown from being a tiny two man operation into a fully functioning business with three managing owners and up to fifteen seasonal employees. Derek Wilson, the president of Landscape Management Co., was born, raised, and still resides in Columbia, TN. He has two daughters, Kaelyn (age 9) and Abbey (age 7). Derek recently married Connie Janos, who is also active in the business. Connie has a son named Eric (age 12). Derek graduated from Columbia Central High School and attended the University of Tennessee at Knoxville where he studied business. During high school and college, Derek spent his summers lugging a lawn mower or two behind his little Toyota pick up truck. Upon leaving college, Derek began working in athletic field construction for Southern Athletic Fields, Inc. At the same time, he founded his first “official” landscape business, D & D Enterprises. Mark Lovell, the vice-president of Landscape Management Co., was born in Columbia, TN. He was raised in Giles County, TN, but he now resides back in Columbia. Mark is married to Tina Lovell and has a daughter named Jessi (age 13). Mark graduated from Richland High School and began working at Fafnir Bearing Company in Pulaski, TN. In the early 90’s, Mark began his experience in the lawn maintenance industry. In 1998, Mark resigned from his job at Fafnir and founded Lovell’s Total Lawn Care. Bill Wilson, the secretary/treasurer of Landscape Management Co., was born in Tuscaloosa, AL. He was raised in Columbia, TN and currently resides in Culleoka, TN. Bill is married to Glenda Wilson and has two daughters, Wendi (age 36) and Jessica (age 29), and one son, Derek (age 31), with whom he is now in business. Bill and Glenda have eight grandchildren. Bill graduated from Columbia Military Academy. Prior to entering into the landscaping business with his son in 1998, Bill was the district circulation manager for The Tennessean newspaper.

January 2003 to pursue other interests. In 2001, Mark Lovell came
into the company as a partner and brought with him the customer base he serviced
when he owned and operated Lovell’s Total Lawn Care. Landscape Management Co.
became a Tennessee corporation in 2005 and is currently owned by Derek Wilson,
Bill Wilson, and Mark Lovell. Although the company still operates as Landscape
Management Co., the legal name is Columbia Landscape Management Co., Inc.
